Anchorage
Personal fall arrest systems/restraint systems must be anchored to any apparently substantial part of the equipment. Equipment used as an anchor must be capable of withstanding twice the maximum load that an employee may impose on it during normal conditions of use.
Tower cranes must meet the requirements in the previous slide; the employer must also provide fall protection equipment for employees on walking/working surfaces more than 6 feet above a lower level (except when an employee is in the cab, on the deck, or at/near draw-works while the equipment is operating). Erecting, climbing, and dismantling 15 feet above the level below also requires fall protection equipment.
It is possible to anchor a personal fall arrest system to a crane or derrick hook under conditions detailed in §1926.1423(j).
