Crawler Locomotive & Truck Cranes - Load Handling Guidelines
The following guidelines pertain to load handling. You will notice that these are quite similar to those for overhead and gantry cranes:
- Never load a crane beyond its rated load (except during testing).
- Never wrap a hoist rope around a load.
- Attach the load to the hook using slings or other appropriate devices.
- The weight of loads that are unstable (due to the structure of the load) must have weights determined (within 10%) before being lifted.
- Cranes must be level and properly blocked when moving the load.
- Loads must be secured (and balanced properly in the sling) before being lifted more than a few inches.
