Equipment with High & Low Hoisting/Lifting Capacity
Equipment with a maximum rated hoisting/lifting capacity of 2,000 pounds or less must meet the following guidelines:
- Equipment must comply with manufacturer prohibitions and procedures related to operations, or employers can develop their own procedures when manufacturer's procedures are unavailable. Procedures must be developed by a qualified individual, must relate to equipment capacity, and must be signed by a registered professional engineer familiar with the equipment.
- Load charts must be provided at the control station.
- Operating procedures, recommended operating speeds, special hazard warnings, instructions, and operator's manual must be easily accessible.
- Functioning operational aids and safety devices must comply with manufacturer requirements.
- Anti-two-blocking devices are required for equipment made after November 8, 2010.
Additional requirements for equipment in this category include the following:
- Equipment must be designed by an engineer.
- Modifications must meet the requirements of §1926.1434 (equipment modifications).
- A post-assembly inspection is required.
