Cranes, derricks, and hoists are pieces of equipment used to lift heavy loads. They are commonly used in construction.

These types of equipment have many variations. Different types of equipment have different regulations related to operations and maintenance; you will learn about some of these requirements. You will also learn about the requirements for and responsibilities of employers and equipment operators.

Remember that each of piece of equipment poses serious safety risks. This course cannot cover every safety standard, and you will need to consult U.S. regulations to determine the standard appropriate for crane, derrick, and hoist safety in your workplace.
