Overhead & Gantry Cranes - Resistors, Conductors, and Extension Lamps

§1910.179 includes regulations for resistors, conductors, and extension lamps.

Resistor enclosures must be open for proper ventilation and to prevent an accumulation of combustible matter, and they must not be near heat sources and hot areas. They must also have support in order to have little to no vibration. Additionally, broken parts or molten metal must not fall on the operator or from the crane.

Runway conductors (especially of the open type that are mounted on crane runway beams or overhead) must be in a location (or equipped with guarding) so that no one entering or exiting the cab or crane's footwalk could have contact with them.

Cabs or bridges of cab-operated cranes with a service receptacle must have a grounded, three-prong permanent receptacle that does not exceed 300 volts.
