Toxicology
Toxicology is the scientific study of the poisonous or toxic properties of a substance. These substances have an adverse health effect on living organisms. Toxicology shows the relationship between the dose, or amount, of the substance, the route of exposure, and the physical characteristics of the recipient. For example, a high concentration of a toxic substance that was inhaled by an elderly worker would have a different impact than a low concentration of the same substance that was absorbed through the skin of a young, healthy worker.
Chemical manufacturers are required to evaluate the hazards of the chemicals they produce and provide safety information to their customers. Employers who use these chemicals must train their employees on the hazards and safe use of these chemicals. As a worker, it is your responsibility to learn about the hazardous effects of the chemicals and toxic substances you work with.
