Working With Crude Oil
When working with or around crude oil, you can be exposed through direct contact by one or more of the following, called routes of entry:
- getting it on your skin and having it sink in; this is the most likely (absorption)
- breathing fumes and vapors (inhalation)
- taking it in accidentally through your mouth by eating or smoking after contact with contaminated surfaces, or drinking contaminated water (ingestion)
- getting a deep cut from a contaminated sharp object (injection)
