The plan must detail how to communicate in case of an emergency as well as the contact information for emergency assistance.

Teaching employees proper preparedness protocol helps them to quickly assess and respond to an emergency situation. Employees should be able to identify when someone needs assistance and whether it is a life-threatening emergency or not.

Employees should also be trained to survey a scene and ensure that administering assistance is safe for all parties involved. Preparedness means ensuring that employees understand the emotional and mental impact of a trauma or emergency situation as well. In a crisis situation, it is important that the safety and mental state for all persons directly or indirectly involved is considered.

Preparedness also includes ensuring that all employees know the location of a first-aid kit and other relevant safety supplies and equipment.
