High-Risk Jobs

Any job that exposes workers to cold environments for extended periods or to extreme cold conditions can put workers at risk of cold-related injuries and illnesses. These hazards can occur when workers are performing tasks outdoors in cold climates or indoors in artificial cold environments, such as cold storage rooms, refrigerated warehouses, and freezers.

Some examples of high risk jobs and industries include the following:

• Police, fire, and emergency personnel
• Airport ground personnel
• Ski resort and other outdoor recreation personnel
• Loggers
• Fishers, divers, and crabbers
• Food processing, packing, and storage personnel
• Utilities and communications personnel
• Postal and delivery services personnel
