Mild Frostbite
Superficial frostbite is the second stage. It includes all layers of the skin, but not the tissue below the skin. It appears as reddened skin that turns white or pale, but the skin remains soft. Initial symptoms of superficial frostbite include the following:
- Burning
- Tingling
- Itching
- Cold sensations
- Numbness
Your skin may begin to feel warm, which is a sign of a more serious skin involvement. As you start to warm the affected area, your skin may appear mottled, blue, or purple, and a fluid-filled blister may appear 24 to 36 hours after re-warming.
