Administrative Controls
OSHA defines administrative controls as those measures that are aimed at reducing daily employee exposure to hazards; however, unlike engineering controls they are not physical alterations. Instead, administrative controls adjust work tasks or schedules. These measures can include things such as health and safety rules, additional relief workers, exercise breaks, and rotation of workers. Broad examples of administrative controls include the following:
- Written programs or policies
- Efficient procedures
- Effective training
PPE
Personal protective equipment, or PPE, consists of clothing and other equipment worn to help minimize exposure to hazards. Examples of PPE include:
- Hardhats
- Ear protection
- Eye protection
- Fall protection
- Respiratory protection
- Foot protection
- Safety glasses
- Electrical gloves
As a supervisor, you should ensure your team is equipped with the appropriate PPE prior to entry into a PRCS.
