Employers

Employers have many responsibilities, such as:

• Determining the presence of hazards in the workplace
• Identifying jobs most at risk for coming into contact with hazards
• Knowing first aid procedures that are appropriate to dipping, coating, and cleaning hazards to which the workers may be exposed
• Providing personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Offering adequate training

When employees work with liquids that are harmful to the skin, employers must provide elements, including the following:

• Locker space to prevent contamination of the employee's street clothes
• An emergency shower and eye-wash station close to the dipping or coating operation
• At least one basin with a hot-water faucet for every 10 employees who work with such liquids
• A physician's approval before an employee with a skin sore that requires medical treatment works in a vapor area
• Treatment of any small skin sores by a properly designated person
• Appropriate first aid supplies that are located near the dipping or coating operation
• Periodic examinations of exposed body parts for employees who work with chromic acid

Employees

Employees should adhere to training, which includes knowing:

• How to follow best safety practices
• When and how to use PPE
• How to use first aid
• What to do in the event of an accident

Personnel Providers

Personnel providers are responsible for informing the potential employee about risks associated with working for a client, such as job opportunities that entail dipping, coating, and cleaning operations and the associated hazards for these processes.
