Hazardous Location Classification

A special set of rules applies to electrical installations in locations that present a flammability risk. This includes such locations as commercial garages, auto body repair shops, aircraft hangars, and gas stations. This set of rules also applies to locations where products that pose a fire hazard are stored, such as grain silos and heating fuel tanks.

Classification of areas and selection of equipment and wiring methods must be under the supervision of a qualified registered professional engineer. Each room, section, or area must be considered individually in determining its classification.
