Training

Plan

Employers must designate and train employees to assist in the safe and orderly evacuation of other employees. It is a good idea to include first aid procedures in a written plan for potential injuries, such as burns or smoke inhalation, associated with fire in the workplace.

Organize

It is important to conduct a risk assessment of the workplace. Hazards can be reduced or eliminated by applying a hierarchy of controls, by:

• Taking administrative measures

Implement

Employers should supervise all workers, especially new workers that may be unfamiliar with exit routes and the employer's emergency action plan. Supervision is important for ensuring proper use and maintenance of appropriate PPE. It is also important to make sure new workers are familiar with safe work procedures.
