Introduction to Eye & Face Protection
Eye & Face Protection represents a specific type of PPE. Eye & Face Protection includes spectacles, goggles, face shields, or welding shields designed to protect those who wear them against a variety of work-related injuries. You may not use any type of protective gear, however; employers must provide specific eye and face protection based on the types of hazards that workers may face. Employers must provide this Eye & Face Protection whenever workers are exposed to risks like flying projectiles, melting metal, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or light radiation. This is covered by OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.133. Employers can only use PPE certified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Employers must also train workers on how to use Eye & Face Protection properly and how to prevent and treat injuries.
