Design Safety Standards
OSHA has set out design safety standards for electrical systems to ensure that they are installed, situated, used, and managed in ways that maximize safety. The design safety standards discussed in this section cover electrical installations and utilization equipment installed or used within or on buildings, structures, and other premises, including yards, carnivals, parking lots, mobile homes, recreational vehicles, and others.
The design safety standards discussed in this section do not cover installations in locations such as on ships and rail cars, on aircraft and automobiles, or in underground mines. The standards also do not apply to communication-related equipment used by rail systems, communications utilities, and electric utilities.
