Wiring Design & Protection
The OSHA Electrical Standard includes provisions for the design and protection of wiring, including use and identification of grounded and grounding conductors, branch circuits, outside conductors, outdoor lamps, services, overcurrent protection, and grounding. These requirements are provided in 29 CFR 1910.304.
Use and Identification of Grounded and Grounding Conductors
A conductor used as a grounded conductor must be identifiable and distinguishable from all other conductors. No grounded conductor may be attached to any terminal or lead so as to reverse designated polarity.
A conductor used as an equipment grounding conductor must also be identifiable and distinguishable from all other conductors. A grounding terminal or grounding-type device on a receptacle, cord connector, or attachment plug cannot be used for purposes other than grounding.
