Definitions
A confined space is defined by OSHA as a space that:
- Is large enough and so configured that an employee can enter and perform assigned work
- Has limited or restricted means for entry or exit
- Is not designed for continuous employee occupancy
Regulations and safety requirements for confined spaces can be found in OSHA 29 CFR.
Confined spaces are always considered hazardous until determined to be otherwise.
