Operational Level Training
Operational level rescue personnel must meet all of the awareness level training requirements and be trained in the proper use of personal protective equipment and rescue equipment necessary to perform rescues, receive the training required for authorized entrants, practice making permit-required confined space rescues at least once every 12 months, and be trained in basic first aid and CPR.
Operational level personnel may attempt to perform an entry rescue if ALL of the following criteria are met:
- It is a rescue, not a body recovery.
- The victim is visible.
- The victim is within 25 feet of the entry point, with straight access.
- Entry is horizontal.
- SCBA is utilized and is able to remain on the rescuer's back at all times.
- The appropriate level of PPE gear is worn.
- A tagline is attached to the rescuer.
- All hazards have been addressed.
If one of the above-mentioned criteria is not met, the rescue must be performed by a rescuer with technical level training.
