SCBA
These devices provide breathable air from a tank of compressed air that is strapped on the back of the rescuer. These can be used when there is not enough oxygen in a confined space. YOU MUST BE PROPERLY TRAINED in the use of this equipment before using it.
The advantages of using SCBA in confined space rescues are that they are completely portable and readily available. The disadvantages of SCBA are the limited duration of air supply, usually 30-60 minutes; the weight of the unit, usually ranging from 20-35 pounds; and the bulk, which may prevent rescuers from entering tight portals.
