Operational Inspection

The next inspection is the operational inspection, which takes place with the engine running. During this inspection, climb into the driver's seat, start the engine, and confirm that the following items are in working order:

  • Accelerator linkage
  • Inch control (if present on the equipment)
  • Brakes
  • Steering
  • Drive control: forward and reverse
  • Tilt control: forward and back
  • Hoist and lowering control
  • Attachment control
  • Horn
  • Lights
  • Back-up alarm (if present on the equipment)
  • Hour meter

Report unusual noises or vibrations immediately.

CAUTION: Never place your hands inside the mast; use a stick or other device to check chain tension.
