Passengers & Riders
In general, forklifts are meant to be operated by one person only. When a forklift is used to raise an employee to reach a platform or perform authorized work, the employee should be in an attachment intended for and authorized by the manufacturer for such work. Furthermore, that employee should be using the provided safety equipment, such as harnessing and hardhats. In addition, be aware of the following regulations and guidelines pertaining to passengers and riders:
- OSHA prohibits unauthorized personnel from riding on a forklift. If riders are authorized, a safe place must be provided.
- Unless you are authorized do so, never carry passengers.
- Use only specialized attachments designed to raise personnel.
- Never transport employees on a platform.
- Never transport employees on the forks.
