Vehicle Inspections
CAUTION: Never drive a vehicle in need of repair. Report and record any problems immediately to the appropriate people in your workplace. OSHA regulations require that any forklift or PIT not in safe operating condition be removed from service immediately. All repairs must be made by authorized personnel. Operators should never attempt any repairs unless they are trained and authorized to do so.
Regardless of where you work, forklift inspections are required. Do not rush through inspections. They are an essential component of safe forklift operation. Note the following guidelines for inspections:
- Forklifts must be examined at least daily before being placed in service.
- Forklifts used around the clock (on multiple shifts) must be examined after each shift.
Two inspections are needed: the first with the vehicle off and the second with the vehicle running.
