Arc Welding & Cutting

Arc welding and cutting use a power supply to create an electric arc between an electrode and the base material to melt metal(s) at the welding point. They can use either direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC), and consumable or non-consumable electrodes.

The area to be welded is typically protected by some form of shielding gas, vapor, or slag. The arc welding process may be manual, semi-automatic, or fully automated. The technology behind it was first developed in the late part of the 19th century.
