Introduction to Hot Work

Hot work is a broad term that covers many facets of industrial applications. The most common examples of hot work are welding, cutting, and brazing. Grinding and drilling may also be considered hot work if the temperatures created are hot enough to spark clothing or other nearby flammable objects.

Hot work poses a unique set of both safety and health risks to an estimated 500,000 workers across a broad spectrum of industries. The odds of a fatal injury resulting from hot work are about 1 in 250 over a working lifetime.

This course covers the various types of hot work as well as the safety requirements dictated by federal regulations and industry best practices.
