Noise & Shock Protection
Operators must be adequately protected from excessive noise and electric shock through the use of appropriate PPE when possible.
Determining the proper hearing protection for employees can be challenging. Typically, the louder the environment, the more robust the hearing protection must be. Types of hearing protection include:
- Single-use earplugs
- Pre-formed or molded earplugs
- Earmuffs
It is always best to be familiar with the type of environment and potential hearing hazards you may be exposed to before beginning work.
Where the hazard of an electric shock exists, properly insulated gloves must be used unless it negatively affects an operator's ability to work. Proper lockout/tagout procedures should be followed before attempting work on energized equipment.
