Frequencies
The human ear can perceive a wide range of sound frequencies (as mentioned above), from very low to high limits. Some individuals will have higher and/or lower limits.
The ear is most sensitive to upper-middle range frequencies. An international sound level measurement, called the "A Weighted Scale", takes this fact into account. The unit of measurement from this scale is called dBA.
Sound measurement scales are not linear; they are more like a rising curve. In other words, noise intensity doubles with each 3 dB increase. A 58 dB sound is two times louder than a 55 dB one. 30 dBA is 1,000 times louder than 1 dBA.
