Hearing Loss Prevention

Fortunately, the incidence of noise-induced hearing loss can be reduced or eliminated through the successful application of controls in the workplace and hearing conservation programs.

OSHA requires employers to determine if workers are exposed to excessive noise in the workplace. If so, the employers must implement feasible controls to eliminate or reduce hazardous levels of noise. Where controls are not sufficient, employers must implement an effective hearing conservation program.

The next lesson describe various controls that can help protect hearing, along with hearing conservation programs and OSHA hearing protection standards.
