A Monitoring Program

A monitoring program must be developed and implemented to measure noise (i.e. conduct sound level sampling), based on various situations and criteria outlined in the standard.

Employees that are exposed at or above the 8-hour Time Weighted Average of 85 dBs (called affected employees) must be notified of the monitoring results. Affected employees or their representatives must be provided with an opportunity to observe any noise measurements.

The employer must establish and maintain an audiometric testing program, providing affected employees with audiometric testing (hearing check) at no cost to them. The testing must be performed by a licensed or certified professional or technician.
