Types of Hearing Loss
The three main types of hearing loss are:
- Conductive, involving the outer or middle ear.
- Sensorineural, involving the inner ear, or
- A combination of these.
Most hearing loss results from inner ear damage. Prolonged exposure to hazardous noise causes wear and damage to the hair and nerves cells. The hairs and nerve cells do not regrow or repair themselves.
Without the hair and nerve cells working properly, sounds are not transmitted as effectively as before.
