Sanitation of Temporary Work Sites
When work is performed on a temporary site (such as a site that will not be used long term), employers must furnish workers with adequate and clean facilities. Each temporary work site should have the following:
- Potable water supply that is stored in a tightly sealed and clearly labelled container, equipped with a tap.
- Disposable drinking cups and a receptacle for them.
- Clearly marked warnings for any water outlets that are not safe for drinking, washing, or cooking.
- Toilet facilities. If no nearby sanitary sewers exist, employers must provide privies, chemical toilets, recirculating toilets, or combustion toilets in accordance with local codes.
- Heated, well-ventilated, and well-lit sleeping quarters for individuals who are guarding the worksite.
- Washing facilities, such as showers, that are capable of removing hazardous substances.
- Licensed food-service facilities.
