Site-Specific Safety & Health Plan

Another required part of the Safety and Health Program is a site-specific safety and health plan. Each work site presents unique challenges and potentially hazardous conditions, and the site-specific plan is designed to address those unique concerns, which may include everything from spill containment procedures and operations for confined spaces to ventilation methods and adequate lighting.

The site-specific plan should be kept at the work site for quick reference and so that employers and employees always have easy access to how operations should be handled. The site-specific plan should contain detailed information about the following topics:

  • Accident and investigation procedures
  • Emergency action plan
  • First aid
  • Hazard prevention and control
  • Management Safety Policy Statement
  • Record keeping
  • Safety responsibility
  • Safety rules
  • Safety training
  • Work site analysis

Prior to entering the work site, employees should be briefed about site conditions, the established safety regulations for the site, and the where to find the on-site copy of the site-specific safety and health plan.

Employers are required to periodically review the site-specific safety and health plan to ensure that all safety precautions are implemented and up to date.
