Hazard Class 1
Class 1 lasers are considered "safe" from possible injury hazards, unless they are disassembled or used improperly. Some examples of Class 1 lasers include:
- CD-ROM player or disk drive
- Laser-aligning or leveling equipment for surveying and construction
However, Class 1M lasers are products that produce either a widely-diverging beam or a large diameter beam. Therefore, only a small part of the whole laser beam can enter the eye. Be aware that these laser products can be harmful to the eye if the beam is viewed using magnifying optical instruments such as a theodolite, eye-loupe (diverging beam), or telescope (collimated beam).
Class 1M lasers are exempt from any control measures other than to prevent potentially hazardous optically aided viewing. Both Class 1 and Class 1M lasers are exempt from other forms of surveillance.
The CAUTION warning label for a Class 1 laser should appear similar to the label pictured.
