Hazard Class 3B

Class 3B denotes lasers or laser systems that can produce a hazard if viewed directly. This includes instances where the eye is exposed to all or part of the laser beam (intrabeam viewing), or exposed to a reflection of the beam off another surface (specular reflection). Protective eyewear is required where direct viewing of a Class 3B laser beam may occur. Class 3B lasers must be equipped with a key switch and a safety interlock. Uses of Class 3B lasers include:

  • Medical lasers
  • Visible CW HeNe lasers above 5 mW, but not exceeding 500 mW radiant power

The DANGER label for Class 3B lasers should appear similar to the label pictured.
