Hazard Class 3R
Class 3R lasers are considered moderate power lasers, having a maximum output power of five times the Accessible Emission Limit (AEL) of a Class 1 laser. Class 3R lasers will not injure the unprotected eye if viewed for momentary periods. However, these lasers may pose a hazard if viewed with collecting or focusing optics. They may also be hazardous under some specular reflection and direct viewing condition if the eye is stable and appropriately focused, but the likelihood of injury is small.
Examples of Class 3R lasers are:
- Certain types of laser pointers
- Higher-powered laser levels
- Helium-neon lasers with powers above 1 milliwatt (mW), but not exceeding 5 milliwatts (mW) radiant power
The DANGER label for Class 3R lasers should appear similar to the label pictured.
