Laser Application Environment

The LSO may require additional control measures based on the environment the laser is used in. In the presence of unenclosed Class 3B and Class 4 lasers, the LSO may specify a Nominal Hazard Zone (NHZ). Examples of indoor applications include machine shops and factory production lines. Examples of outdoor applications include construction sites, pipelines trenches, and mining tunnels. If possible, the LSO should determine the irradiance at the location of possible exposure.
