Laser Safety Regulations - ANSI
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is an organization that uses industry experts to set consensus standards on various topics. In 2007, ANSI issued a safety series covering lasers, with the top level main document numbered ANSI Z 136.1. ANSI has developed additional documents for the series that cover more specific laser information for various uses and industries. ANSI Z 136.1 provides summary recommendations for the responsibilities of the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and the classification, hazards, effects, and safe use of lasers and laser systems that operate at wavelengths between 0.18µm and 1mm.
In addition, ANSI B11.21-1997, Machine Tools Using Lasers for Processing Materials - Safety Requirements for Design, Construction, Care, and Use, is applicable to both laser manufacturers and laser product users.
