Laser Safety Program

Any organization operating a laser should establish a laser safety program. This program should address the safety practices outlined in ANSI Z136.1, as well as any internal safety requirements. The laser safety program should document the following:

• The name of and training received by the LSO
• Policies and procedures
• Laser inventory, including types of lasers, where they are located, and who is authorized to use them
• Detailed hazard analysis for each laser
• Approved control measures for each laser
• Audit schedule
• Existing issues and action plan
