Caution Signs & Labels - Exceptions
The following are exceptions to posting a radiation caution sign or label in an area with radiation:
- A caution sign is not required in a room or area where there is a sealed radiation source, provided the radiation level 12 inches from the surface of the source container or housing does not exceed 5 millirem per hour.
- Caution signs are not required in rooms or other areas in onsite medical facilities where there are patients containing radioactive material, provided there are personnel in attendance who will take the precautions necessary to prevent the exposure of any individual to radiation or radioactive material in excess of authorized limits.
- Caution signs are not required to be posted in areas or rooms containing radioactive materials for periods of less than eight hours if the following are true:
- The materials are constantly attended to during such periods by an individual who will take the precautions necessary to prevent the exposure of any individual to radiation or radioactive materials in excess of authorized limits.
- Such an area or room is subject to the employer's control.
