Introduction
Radiation is energy that comes from a variety of sources, both natural and man-made. Radiation travels from its source in the form of energy waves or energized particles. There are two kinds of radiation: ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation.
In this course, we are exclusively concerned with ionizing radiation. We will examine ionizing radiation and the considerable health risks it poses to affected workers when the radiation is not properly controlled. We will also review OSHA's Ionizing Radiation Standard for general industry, which can be found in 29 CFR 1910.1096, to ensure that we can readily recognize, evaluate, and control occupational health hazards associated with ionizing radiation.
