Equipment Modifications

In some circumstances, such as during the manufacture of lasers and during research and development, operation of an unenclosed laser or laser system is necessary. It is the responsibility of the LSO to ensure that a hazard evaluation is completed after modifications and any necessary changes are made to the policies and procedures. Such controls may include but are not limited to areas, as follows:

• Access restriction
• Eye protection
• Area controls
• Barriers, shrouds, beam stops
• Administrative and procedural controls
• Education and training
