Safety Audits

It is the LSO's responsibility to supervise or to conduct and document a safety audit of the facility and safety features annually. Audits may be performed more often at the discretion of the LSO. They should include the following elements:

  • Examination of all equipment associated with the use of lasers
  • Examination of the use areas
  • Assessment of staff knowledge
  • Observation of procedures

The LSO should write or require a written audit report. Correct any areas of laser safety that are non-compliant with policy or standards, and document follow-up actions. The results of safety audits may also be useful in fine-tuning safety awareness training programs.
