Employee Training
Employees must receive training from the employer about the purpose and function of the energy control program. As a result of the training, employees should know how to safely apply, use, and remove energy controls. The training must include the following:
- Each authorized employee must be trained in the recognition of applicable hazardous energy sources, the type and magnitude of the energy available in the workplace, and the methods and means necessary for energy isolation and control.
- Each affected employee must be trained in the purpose and use of the energy control procedure.
- All other employees whose work operations are or may be in an area where energy control procedures may be utilized, must be instructed about the procedure, and about the prohibition against restarting or reenergizing machines that are locked out or tagged out.
