Adjustable Guards
Workers can modify adjustable guards to fit different tasks or stock sizes without changing the guard itself.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Adjustable Guards
Adjustable guards are great if the project requires different types of stock, such as lumber or sheet metal, and stock sizes. Adjustable guards allow workers to change the guard to fit the material they are working with at that time. During adjustments, however, workers may have to reach into the danger zone to move a component of the guard, which can make the guard ineffective. Another way an adjustable guard may be rendered useless is if the operator fails to adjust it properly. Also, if the openings in the guard where the workers fit the stock through are too wide, the chances are increased that a worker's hands may come into contact with moving or hazardous parts.
