Fixed Guards
Fixed guards remain in place and secured at all times, unless maintenance is required.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Fixed Guards
Fixed guards are the safest, as there is no easy way to remove them. The nature of these guards makes them highly effective against injuries because it is difficult to bypass them without deliberate effort. However, one limitation is that when maintenance is necessary, the guard must be removed and the machine then requires an alternate form of protection to counteract the hazard. In addition, fixed guards could hinder production and comfort by limiting visibility and possibly increasing task completion time as employees must find ways to work around the guard.
