Miter Saws
Like a chop saw, a miter saw's blade is mounted on a pivoting arm. However, the position of the arm can be adjusted on a miter saw, allowing for angled cuts in addition to square cuts. There is also a pushing motion involved during a miter saw cut, where the saw is moved through the stock and away from the operator, rather than the straight up and down movement achieved with the chop saw.
- Point of Operation
- Hazard: A rotating blade on elbow-hinged arm can cut the operator whether the machine is on or off.
- Potential Safeguards: The use of a self-adjusting guard over the portion of the blade above the table will prevent the operator or other employees from injury.
