Hazardous Plants Exposure
Here are some symptoms to look for:
- Redness
- Itchiness
- Swelling or raised welts
- Blisters
- Rash
If exposed, you have up to 15 minutes from exposure before the oil penetrates the skin and causes damage. Follow these tips immediately:
- Rinse skin with rubbing alcohol or specialized poison plant washes.
- Wash your hands immediately and thoroughly with soap (degreasing soap or detergent, if available) and water. Rinse with water well, and repeat this several times.
- Scrub under the nails with a brush.
- Do not touch anyone or anything else, if possible. Do not touch sensitive areas of your body, including eyes, nose, and mouth. Avoid scratching.
- Remove any clothing or items that came into contact immediately, using gloves, if possible. Clean them thoroughly, using hot water and strong detergent for clothes.
