Hazardous Plants Symptoms

Most symptoms will disappear within one to two weeks. Check with your doctor and pharmacy for treatments and lotions, such as calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream.

An over-the-counter antihistamine can be taken to help with itch relief. Follow directions, and be aware that drowsiness may occur. You can also apply cold compresses to the affected areas.

If sensitive areas such as the face or genitals are exposed, then seek medical attention.

In some cases, an extreme allergic reaction may occur. If any of these symptoms appear in you or your co-workers, seek medical attention immediately:

  • Difficulty breathing and or swallowing
  • Swollen lips, throat, or tongue
  • Slurred speech
  • Lips turning blue
  • Lightheadedness, weakness, or lethargy
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shock (bodily collapse or near collapse due to inadequate oxygen delivery)
  • Respiratory or cardiac failure
