Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes drink blood by feeding on people and animals, typically around dusk and dawn. They live anywhere with still water nearby, near dense amounts of plants.
In northern parts of the United States, mosquitoes thrive during summer but tend to die off when cold weather approaches. In southern states, mosquito populations can remain high year round.
A major problem with mosquitoes is that they can carry various diseases and parasites, transmitting them to people when they feed.
Some diseases that mosquitoes can transmit to people include:
- Saint Louis encephalitis
- West Nile Virus
- Malaria
- Yellow Fever
