Snake Bite Victims
Snake bite victims can experience symptoms such as:
- Redness, swelling, and pain around the bite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Labored breathing
- Vision problems
- Increased salivation or sweating
- Numbness or tingling around the face or limbs
If a co-worker is bitten:
- Dial 911 or contact the local Emergency Medical Service.
- Try and see the snake's color and head shape to help with giving proper treatment. DO NOT try to capture it.
- Keep the victim calm; this can help slow the spread of venom.
- Lay or sit the person down and have him or her stay still, with the bite level to their heart.
- Cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing.
DO NOT:
- Apply a tourniquet
- Slash the wound with a knife
- Suck out the venom
- Apply ice or immerse the wound in water
- Give alcohol or caffeinated beverages to the victim
